Case Study: Bud Werner Memorial Library
Custom Interior Solution for LEED® Silver Certified Public Memorial Library
The Bud Werner Memorial Library, located in Steamboat Springs, CO, is the first public library in Colorado to achieve a Silver LEED certification. The certification came about as a result of the sustainable building design and practices that transpired during a renovation and expansion project. The renovation and expansion included transforming the main floor of the library into a beautiful community meeting room and adding 25,000 sq. ft. of space to the original structure.
About the Solution
Latitude worked directly with the library management to create a flexible and functional interior and exterior signage system that beautifully complements the architectural design. In order to create the right solution for the library, Latitude implemented its comprehensive wayfinding, design and fabrication program known as SignPlan™. Because the interior architectural design created a very open space, guiding visitors and staff through the library via an effective wayfinding program was of utmost importance. A key function of the wayfinding solution is to utilize directional wayfinding signage to draw visitor’s attention and guide them to the different areas of the Library. Accomplishing this function required creating a custom Projection Mounted Solution for key information signs.
Drawing upon the muted earthtone color scheme of the library’s architectural interior design, Latitude used a deep, rich brown as the base color of each sign to ensure the signage complemented the environment and allowed for a clear, highly contrasted message. The complete custom signage solution was fabricated using key elements from Latitude’s Infinity™ product line, Latitude’s InTouch™ ADA-Ready™ window sign, materials from Latitude’s Terra product line, and frosted acrylic and stainless steel.
The result is a functional and modular custom signage solution that guides visitors and staff effectively and efficiently throughout the library.
