2024’s Greatest Hits: Favorite Signs of the Year

`

Looking back at our favorite projects and biggest developments this past year.

2024 was a big year at Latitude. We rolled out innovative technology, partnered with many great companies, and completed some fantastic custom sign projects. Take a look at some of our favorite moments from the year.

Favorite New Tech: Vertigraphics Vertical Printing

Our new Vertigraphics technology prints designs, pictures, artwork, and text directly onto almost any vertical surface, including interior and exterior walls of any finish and size. Unlike traditional printing methods, we print and install in one step with our one-of-a-kind vertical printing machine.

More benefits:

  • It’s portable and easy to set up and run in your space.
  • The UV-cured ink is 100% waterproof and blends into the wall.
  • It can print up to 1200 dpi.
  • It’s environmentally friendly and requires zero waste products to install or remove.

Favorite Healthcare Signage: OSF HealthCare Cancer Institute

OSF HealthCare Cancer Institute spans 200,000 square feet across five floors dedicated to cancer care, education, and research. OSF HealthCare and POINTCORE Construction, the construction manager, enlisted Latitude Signage + Design to design, plan, fabricate, and install all signage within the facility. Latitude also planned and developed a new campus-wide exterior wayfinding signage plan to help patients and visitors navigate the vast campus.

Favorite Donor Wall: Beatrice Public Schools

Through the Design-Build process, Latitude collaborated with Beatrice Public Schools to create a dynamic donor recognition display that honors the individuals, families, and organizations that support the school district’s mission to be among the best in the nation. A soap bubble concept with fun kid-centric textures draws adults’ attention and gives kids something fun and colorful to look at throughout their school day.

Favorite Use of Unique Materials: SteelWave Element Research Center

SteelWave was working with global architecture firm Rio to create a unique sign style to give its new Element Research Center an industrial look. The lead architect’s plans included exterior signs made from heavy rebar. Working with the architect, Latitude manipulated the rebar sign’s casing, gave it a solid foundational base, and applied a clear coating to the material to create signs that, in total, weighed 3.46 tons – or 7,627 pounds.

Favorite Exterior Signage: Live Nation’s Vibrant Music Hall

Live Nation partnered with Latitude early on for all signage aspects at the new Vibrant Music Hall in Waukee, Iowa. The exterior custom-fabricated LED logos are nearly 26 feet long and 12 feet high on a raceway painted to match the concrete exterior. The front-lit channel letters are 5 inches deep and have a 3/16-inch white acrylic face with a 1-inch standard black trim cap. The RED ROOM sign is made from faux neon LEDs. A clear acrylic backer is mounted to mullions inside the building.

Favorite Outdoor Recognition Display: Iowa Arboretum’s Treehouse Village

Iowa Arboretum’s Family Engagement Committee expanded its visitor demographic with the new Treehouse Village. Latitude partnered with Confluence Landscape Architecture on a woodsy-designed entrance that incorporated donors, welcomed visitors, and aligned with the treehouse vibe. Careful consideration was needed to adequately install the ¼” thick CNC flat-cut “rusted” tree to a nearly 8-foot-tall secured gate that opens when a guest scans the QR code.

Favorite Corporate Signage: WorldWide Logistics

WorldWide Logistics turned to the experts at Latitude for planning, custom design, manufacturing, and installation for interior and exterior signage at their new Urbandale headquarters. The project was a full Design-Build project from the early construction stages. Custom signs included an exterior illuminated logo sign, monument sign, interior illuminated logo with dimensional letters, privacy vinyl, and ADA-compliant signage.

Favorite Senior Living Signage: CopperWood

CopperWood Senior Living has 126 apartment homes for assisted and memory care residents. The signage plan focused on clarity, with signs featuring large, easy-to-read fonts and high-contrast colors for better visibility and readability, critical for older eyes. The final wayfinding system aids in navigation, provides clear identification of specific areas, and adds to the overall ambiance of the facilities.

Favorite Wayfinding Signage: Frisco Transit Center

Summit Stage, a free public transportation system that helps adventure-seekers and local workers get around Summit County, Colorado, connects ski, hiking, shopping, medical, and residential areas in Frisco, Breckenridge, Keystone, Dillion, and Silverthorne. Latitude provided top-notch wayfinding signage for the Frisco Transit Center.
